Fans of the signature KONAMI horror series will enjoy its brand new slot game. The gaming company announced they will release a Silent Hill horror-themed slot machine with the well-known title raving fans enjoyed both as a game, and as a movie. The cancelation of the game series back in 2015 disappointed many gamers.
KONAMI GAMING – the subsidiary of KONAMI, announced a brand new series of slot cabinets to showcase during the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) in Vegas. One feature is Silent Hill Escape. Yahoo Finance issued a report that the slot machine will arrive with a 49-inch “J” curve display, with 4k Ultra HD technology.
“This cabinet strikingly combines sleek entertainment, premium packaging, and player comfort, backed by a rich library of original titles,” said Tom Jingoli, executive vice president & chief commercial officer at Konami Gaming. “Everything, including its shape, screens, betting surface, and merchandising, has been engineered to maximize both player experience and operational results. This latest cabinet is a first glimpse at great things to come from Konami.”
Fans marked seven years since Downpour – the last full Silent Hill-themed game, has been released. The company renews the Silent Hill trademark a few months ago, showing signs that securing the rights for slot machine devices are high.
Silent Hill is a horror-themed media franchise, expanding in a series of survival video games. Created by Keiichiro Toyama and developed and released by Konami, the game series became a hit in 1999. The hit series expanded into two feature films, print pieces and spin-off video games. The Silent Hill main series feature 8 titles, spread across a 1999 – 2012.
Based on the narrative of an eponymous foggy American Town Silent Hill, the game has a strong literary genre influence, describing most characters as “everyman” – an easy to identify with, ordinary character, often placed in extraordinary situations.
Konami Holdings is a Japanese gambling and entertainment conglomerate. Operating as a distributor of anime, trading cards, slot machines and arcade cabinets, the company is a global leader in the entertainment industry. Its subsidiary – Konami Gaming is known for the video production company, best known for the hit video game series Metal Gear, Silent Hill, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Adventure Island.
The company canceled Silent Hill franchise back in 2015, giving no explanation despite the huge success of P.T’s teaser, delisting itself from the New York Stock exchange a few hours later after the trailer was taken down.
Writer and game co-director Guillermo del Toro criticized the cancelation, questioning the approach and the further actions of removing the trailer from the public space. In his frustration, he stated he would never work on another video game project. This, however, turned out to not be true, as he will be starring as a skin pupped for an upcoming game of Kojima Productions – Death Stranding. The game will be released in November, later this year.
